I am retired, living in Rochester, MN, and have been growing gloxinias for several years now. I have had several lovely plants. One had a large regular plant. Then it sent up 2 shoots of miniature plants! about 2 inches tall with 10-12 leaves and so far no buds. I pinched off the regular plant and then one of the tiny plants to see what will happen. Why does it have the miniature plant, instead of growing a full-sized plant?? The miniature plant looks healthy. Replies will be appreciated. -Larry Mason
Hello Larrymason, I imagine you are talking about florist gloxinias. They grow from tubers. The little plants are offsets. They are juvenile plants that have not been growing long enough to be large. They will need time to build up energy to grow larger. You can remove them and repot them for new plants.
Thank you for your reply. Yes, these are florist gloxinias. This tiny plant has been that way a couple of months at least. Could the tuber just be resting? -Larry
