I agree with Chris. Take care with the Dieffenbachia, they're toxic. It's nick-name is "Dumb Cane" because it reportedly will cause your mouth and throat to swell and make it impossible to talk. In rare cases it causes severe enough swelling to block the airway entirely. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you have small children or pets that nibble your plants. I've had one in my house for years with no adverse effects. I do make sure to wash my hands or any tools I use on it but otherwise I don't give it another thought. My kids never ate my houseplants so it wasn't an issue with them and they are beautiful plants...enjoy!
Thanks for the response. I was wondering about the Dieffenbachia because someone had asked about it in a different post. They had a picture in the post, but it did not look much like my clipping. Thanks again!
Aroids are pretty variable. And I wouldn't worry overmuch about the Dieffenbachia and poisoning issues... There are many more toxic plants out there!
Dieffenbachia is only a problem if you eat it. The active agent is oxalate crystals. They are better considered an irritant than toxic. Cabbages and radishes also have oxalate crystals but they decompose when you cook the plants.
