Hi! I just received 3 Black Knight Butterfly Bushes from a nursery catalog (which I regularly order from), and immediately planted them. They were all very hardy looking when received and came in 4 inch pots. I added lots of peat moss, new top soil, and bark mulch to the planting sites, then we had a freak snowstorm, followed by cold rainy weather for about two weeks thereafter. Now my butterfly bushes are leafless and twiggy....are they dead, or do they tend to take a while to establish before taking off? I also planted a Sungold BB at the same time as the Black Knights, and it is full of green leaves and seems happy (all BB's are in a line, along a fence. Is the Black Knight a more "finicky" variety, or should I be contacting the nursery for a replacement--they are very good about replacing plants/shrubs.
If they don't come back with new sprouts fairly soon that will be a strong hint. http://www.puyallup.wsu.edu/~Linda ...ltural Myths_files/Myths/Compost overdose.pdf
