Last summer some of my hybrid daylilies developed disease with the following characteristics: a cauliflower-like appearance on the crown or on the soil near the crown; if the substance was newly deposited, then it would be soft (it hardened as it aged); some of my stems were distorted and broken with the top of the stem curling; some blooms and buds broke off easily.

Can anyone help me identify and treat this, in case it comes back again this year?

    thanks, Jan

Yes, Newt, I think that is it. Do you have any suggestions for treating this? Should I wait to see if it appears again before I treat it, or can I do something to prevent it? Do I need to remove infected plants??

Thanks so much for your help.
