Hello. I am trying to find a suitable groundcover for my slope and I was recommended Sedum miniature Stonecrop as a suitable plant. I live in Chula vista, California and my slope is abot 60' wide x 20' high and is behind a retaining wall that is 7' high if you include the rod iron fence. The slope gets alot of sun and we really wanted something that did not attract bees and stays green. It is about 4 feet from our pool and the bees scare our kids. We just ripped out all the iceplant and looking for something that fits our needs is getting extremely difficult. I would not be opposed to somthing that flowers but I don't know any flowers that do not attract bees and that is our first concern. Would the sedum miniature stonecrop be the answer? Or if there is any other ground cover that you can recommend that would fit my needs I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
I cannot say for certain that bees don't visit these flowers, but Sedum kimnachii might fit the bill for you. Your kids may not do much swimming in February...when this flowers for me...and I'm about 5 miles southwest from you (as the crow flies). Here's one of mine flowering toward the end of Feb.: Walter Andersen's Nursery might carry these in flats. They have other succulents (also sold in flats) that might do the trick. One of the employees there might be able to tell you which ones don't attract bees (or rarely flower).
