I was given this plant by a friend and was told that it was called "desert cinderella". However, I have had no luck in finding any reference to a plant by that name. The mature version of the plant apparently produces white flowers .... I am made to understand that the flowers appear and wilt away within a very short interval.
AKA Night Blooming Cereus. These plants can get quite large.The Blooms open at night and last only that one night.
Actually Epiphyllum or Orchid cactus is a bit different than the Peniocereus, cereus or night-blooming cereus as it has bright red (pink) (or white-or yellow) blooms that last several days to a week. Hairs or long growth on the stems are roots and if buried while still attached to the plant will start a new plant that you can separate after new plant has started. Blooms usually arise from leaf edges. Someone off forum asked me about Epiphyllum and and I found this page which has a lot of information/links. Including the following: Which means my above statement about roots was incorrect. It is possible to get new starts using the above process though also by cuttings. Harry
