    Greetings,

I need help identifying these two young palms before I settle on a place to plant them.

I collected them as seeds about 5 years ago while on a trip to the Huntington Library & Gardens in San Marino, California. I was only collecting seeds of unusual palms since I have plenty of the more common Queens in the yard already.

They are about 4 or 5 years old and about 18 high. The most notable thing about them is the spike like buds that are growing around the bottom. Ive peeled the dead material from the trunk to show them better. Any help would be great.

    Thank You,

    Daniel

This palm is a Chamaedorea, pronounced kay-mee-DOR-ee-a. Not sure which species it would be, as there are quite a few with similar appearances.

    Cheers, LPN.

    Re: Palm ID Needed

Hi - you could try sending this note (and pix) to www.rarepalmseeds.com, and hope they can recognize it from your description and pictures.

One of the multistemmed species of Chamaedorea - perhaps C. pinnatifrons

Or, more realistically (given the Greek etymology), 'Kamm-eye-dor-ee-a'
