Mystery winter insects

    Just found hundreds of these mystery bugs on the backyard wood railing - are they anything invasive to worry about?

    Your insects appear to be springtails (Colembola) and are regarded as detritus feeders. Even though there can be explosive numbers of these creatures at times, they are non-harmful to living plants but are doing a good job at recycling woody material and provide food for other animals.
