I am in my first year of college and since I am not allowed to have a pet my mom sent me a plant. It was a Valentine's Day gift and was delivered to me with just a card and no identification...... I have no idea what kind of plant this is. I love it and not only am I curious but I also want to know how to best take care of it. The leaves are very shiny (waxy?) but the underside of them feels very different from the top. Also, some of the leaves towards the top have almost a "speckling" or "marbling" of a lighter green on them (does this mean anything?). I can see new leaves coming in and they are much lighter than their predecessors. They also almost look as if they would really be a flower of some sort. Don't mind the red and pink that may show in some of the pictures, it is a part of another Valentine's Day gift (not as if the painted metal roses look so natural in there, but I thought I would inform nonetheless). Thank you for all of your help!!
You'll do best to pull out all that artificial grass stuff, so you can see/touch the soil surface to see how moist it is. Necessary for deciding when to water it.
is it poison ivy?...just kidding of course.....well i think it is a cool gift. however, in my limited experience as a botanist, or thinking of being a botanist, i have not come across such a plant. You sound like you know what you're talking about though, and that is always good. I hope that somewhere along the way you find the answers that you have been looking for!
These like it warm, bright and humid. Can be difficult under ordinary indoor conditions. Dropping of flower buds is common.
