I came across a small (8' high) plum tree in a mainly poplar wooden area, very dry soil, with a dozen smallish cherry red plums.(lighter flesh) They were delicious - and sweet, about 1" diam. No other plum trees in the area noticed. Ive kept 3 of the seeds. (Normal looking, about 3/4" long) What steps should I take to grow these seeds? Live in North Vancouver, about 500' above sea level, soil is usually only 6 - 12": deep.

Was this a wild area, or a place where these might have been cultivated in the past?

Thanks, - no, this is on an uncultivated wild area, by a local school. However about a hundred yerds away, there was a house, since demolished, that had a huge plum tree on it. Its ben gone 15 years or so, and it did cross my mind that someone may have tossed a pip from it, at this 'new' spot. Ellis

Have a look at Germination of Tree Seeds from Iowa State Extension. Note that if this is indeed a cultivated variety, it won't come true from seeds - so you might instead prefer to propagate it from cuttings.
