My daughter and I salvaged a sproutling from a "left for dead" flowerpot at the office. With just a little TLC, it soon responded nicely! The leaves are quite large, flat, fleshy, deep green, very shiny and very much lilypad-shaped. Some leaves are up to 6" in diameter so far, and they almost appear to grow out of the soil individually, but are really stemming from little clusters. The undersides of the leaves are smooth as well. I'm thinking it might turn out to be a flowering type plant. We tried looking for it online, but unsuccessfully. If anyone can tell us what this reborn plant is, we'd really love to know!
The plant you have is commonly called a beefsteak begonia, and the latin is begonia x eranthrophylla. It can also have curled and cut leaved varieties. with a litle more TLC you will be rewarded by some pretty little pink flowers.
Re: Mystery office plant - Thank you, James! James, thank you so much for your help with this! Greatly appreciated.
