Good Evening - I am wondering if anyone can help me identify this purple flowering shrub. We moved into our home about 2 years ago. We first noticed it all out in bloom last weekend. I live in upstate NY and we still have about a month to go before the lilacs are even in bloom! This is a mystery and no one can identify this. Can you help please? Thank you
Certainly a Daphne; there are several species with pink flowers, not sure myself how to tell them apart.
Thank you for this information. I researched this name through Wikipedia and it doesn't seem like this shrub should be in Upstate NY. Typically, Eurpore and Western Asia. It also states the shrub is highly toxic. Should I been concerned and how did it get here? I will watch for leaves and red berriers. It is a very insteresting shrub. I so much appreciate your assistance.
Grown in gardens as an ornamental shrub, and the seeds can be spread by birds eating the fruit (the berries are only posonous for people, not for birds). Safe to keep as long as you don't eat it!
