My cordyline was diong fine and was about six foot tall, but then the leaves started to turn brown!!!. on futher investigation i discoverd a hole the trunk, just below the leaves! which on proding i found to be full of woodlice? I have since removed all the Leaves (the canopy of the tree) and the offending Part of trunk!!! Was this the right thing to do? and how do i prevent this happening again!!!
It's usually said that woodlice only feed opportunistically on damaged, already rotting plant material...I do sometimes wonder with all the little guys in my garden munching away! Cordylines do resprout below a damaged crown (as with cold damaged plants, which then usually become multi-headed) so your plant will likely recover now.
Thank You!!! ... I Have left the trunk at about five ft is that too big or should it be shorter? Thank You Again Sue
Well, the look will be different branching from up at 5 ft. compared to closer to the ground...I can't think of a good reason to lower it...many of us would be happy to have such a tall cordyline :-) In my area of Canada they would be burnt to the ground by the cold every few years anyway...so you're ahead of me already. Just enjoy your plant...and hope the super cold winters like back in the 1980's are truly behind us!
Thank You!!! I feel a lot more confident in my being so brutal to my much loved cordyline!!! And am looking forward to any thing that makes it resemble a tree again!!!!
