Hi, i'm looking for help identifying some mushrooms. I have a small photography blog and prefer to name the species along with each post. If any one knows what any of these are, i'd really appreciate the help! the first was taken in victoria, bc, in the mt. doug area, late winter. this picture was taken on a dry day in the cypress trails park area. growing through moss on a large fallen pine log. the third was taken in early winter, cold and wet conditions on a pine, around west vancouver's eagle lake. cheers, Monty
Hi Monty, #3 appears to be Panellus serotinus, the Winter Oyster. #2 may be one of the Inky Cap tribe (Coprinellus, coprinopsis and etc) #1 generally looks like a Mycena, but I am unsure. The cap texture is interesting. Was it on ground? cheers, frog
Frog, Thank you very much for the help! Yes, the first was on the ground growing from a flat bed of hair pointed feather moss (not sure if that's important). I'd describe the caps as ghostly. Almost white, but lightly mottled with pale grey, solid grey around the rim. Also some miniscule black pin-points scattered around the cap. Although, that could just be dirt. Thanks again, Monty
