My question is, what is the proper channels a person should go through to move there personal plant collection from one state to another? Or is there any restriction after all mail order plants are shipped from all over. I am aware that commercial grown plants have to have some type of inspection before being shipped but these plants are not for commercial use just for the owners enjoyment.

Certain states have restrictions/prohibitions of some plants. These laws are usually to protect agriculture within the state. (Many catalogs have notes, "Can not be shipped to California or Florida or wherever.) It is a good idea to check with the state you are planning to move to. Try an internet search with the state name, agriculture and plant restrictions.

yes, there are restrictions in some of the states.

all you need to do is go to the website for the state you are moving to and then do a search of the site for 'plant import' and you should be brought to the page for the dept that handles it in that state.
