I'm stratifying pine seed. How do I keep mould off them? I've washed them a couple of times, washed the containers with boiling water, they're covered. Ideas welcomed.
    Cheers

Thanks JK. There are a couple of good ideas there. I'm trying the flower preserver now.
Just wondering: if pines like acid soil, how would the seed react to a little vinegar? And would that cure the mould problem?

No idea. I'd rather not speculate.

A little dilute hydrogen peroxide might help. But if they're very mouldy, it may already be too late. Try cutting one seed across; if it is semi-liquid inside and nasty-smelling, then it's too late. If it is firm white inside, then it's OK.

    Thanks Michael.
So far so good. The mould appeared after a day, and I washed it off. Then it reappeared a day later and I washed it again in the flower preservative. If (when) it appears again I'll cut one and try the peroxide treatment.
