    Hello all.

I purchased a 5 ft. Mission Fig Tree in mid-May this year and have left it in the 10" pot in came in. It's sits on my deck which gets full sun. Things seemed to be going great at first, new growth came and I have about 10-12 fruits. But in the past week or so, I noticed a number of the leaves are going yellow and then falling off! I not sure what has gone wrong but I'm worried the plant in dying.

I did speak to the nursery where I bought it and they suggested I may not be watering enough or I may be watering too much. I usually water thoroughly at around 4 pm every 2-3 days.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what might be the problem?

I also have a fig question. I received a fig tree (sorry dont know the type other than its from an Italian gardner). Where I live the winters get extremely cold having temps drop below zero is quite common. Im afraid even if I wrap and mulch my poor tree will never last. Can I keep the fig tree in the house during the winter months?

jc, Probably too much water. Wait until the leaves start to wilt ever so slightly before watering or get yourself a cheap moisture meter.

lucy, where you are and not knowing the fig variety, you'll probably want to keep your fig potted and inside in winter. Water very sparingly while its dormant and keep in an attached garage or somewhere where it will not freeze.

As I said I dont know the variety either other than it is the kind Italians enjoy! I live in Western NY towards Binghamton, our winters are long, dark and brrrrrrr. I will keep the tree in as you suggest and water sparingly and hopefully it will do well.

LucyL: I live in a similar area and I have been bringing my fig trees inside and they are doing fine!
