I have a fig tree that was outside for the winter, wrapped and is in a protected area against the house. As of today 5/7/09, I do not see any new growth or buds emerging. I am in NY (Zone 7) Is this normal? or did the tree not survive the winter?

Fig trees are just coming out here in USDA 8.

My well protected Fig is greening up, here on the Pacific North East Coast. You may take a cutting from the tip to check for green life.... as the weather has been variable and rather cold....if it is all shrivelled and brittle, that is dead wood....it will come back from the base if adequately protected last winter.... good luck!

Thanks for your response, if the tree is brown and brittle, should I be cutting it don and let the regrowth from the roots happen?
