I have had this plant for about 7 years. It was given to me as an already established plant. Therefore approximately 15-20 years old.
About a month ago we noticed new shoots appear at the top. Just assumed new leaves. What we didn't expect were new buds which have started to flower. This has grown approximately 2 feet.
Any answers or solutions to what this is and why, would be much appreciated.
    I have uploaded images.
    Thank you

It looks like a yucca; I can't tell what species. Not in the palm family (in the asparagus family!).
