I have shoots coming up from the bottom that I think I should remove. We are gone in the summer and when returning, they had appeared!

I am not sure if you are asking a question or not? From what I have read on this board, it sounds like it is root stalk and should be removed. Again, I am no expert and you may want to wait for a more educated response.

I am sure they are not root stock as they come from the stem above the dirt but I have also had others say that the gardeners clip them whenever they see them on any of the plants in yards here in AZ. I was going to "bite the bullet" and cut them today.....Thanks.

If they are growing below the graft they are from the root stock, and need to be removed. - Millet

Thanks for answering. I did check and the shoots seem to be above but it is hard to tell as the tree is very small yet. They have thorns so I know they do not belong on the plant.....I cut them off and hope there won't be anymore. They have to be from the root stock and they are definitely different than the plant itself. Dee

Sprouts from the root stock will grow from time to time, it is very common and certainly no big deal. - Millet
