Help! We have a meta sequoia tree which is about 15 years old. It was only 7 ft tall ten years ago when we moved here 10 yrs ago. it is now about 20 ft pluswith a spread of about 20 ft. It's a stunning showpiece, with bowl shaped bottom branches and a straight leader. It's lower branches are touching the neighboring firs and the roof of an outdoor structure. I'm thinking of either pruning the bottom branches, which would strip it of it's character (and my cat's jungle gym). But I am also concerned it's roots may spread into the septic field which it borders. An I wrong in worrying about the septic field?
