I bought two plants labelled Melliodendron xylocarpum from a nursey in Ireland (Future Forests) last year. I understand that there is considerable doubt as to the authenticity of Melliodendrons sold in Europe. My plants are in leaf now, but have not flowered. Before planting them out I would like to be a bit more certain about their identity. Can anybody help me with identification? Thanks Roger Bischoff
This thread should be moved to another forum, but I'll use the opportunity to say that I've also wanted to buy Melliodendron from FF, but the cost of shipment has scared me away. Instead, I've opted for Greer Gardens (based in Eugene, OR), as a more reliable source, but Mr. Greer has failed to send me my Liebling of a plant. So, I'm still looking for the source (with mail order) of mystery Melliodendron. Don't you, guys, have a true M. xylocarpum on the British Isles? That would be really odd. 2004 saw two very exciting additions to the collection. The first, a generous gift from Michael Lear of the National Arboretum of Ireland, of Melliodendron xylocarpum which is coming through its second winter and originates in the forest ravines of China. It promises to be a stunning plant. Holker Hall & Gardens
