Got this plant a year ago;repotted at that time cause roots were coming out of pot.Repotted in to a 10'' plastic pot;with drain holder on bottom.Water and fertilize last month;pot sit facing east window.Dirt feels dirt at the moment.Had 3 can in pot;recently had to remove one;all leaves die on it and the bark was getting lose. Now have these 2 left in pot.Recently the one(in pic) lost its last leaves.Just last month its bark was starting to get loose to;but as of today bark don't feel lose any more.i water this plant about every 10 days if soil is dry.Used spring water i buy from town. Was wondering if i should repot and fertilize this plant to see if it has root rot;My leaves are turning brown and dieing off plant. One cane has new growth the other is bare.or should i repot them and buried the cane deeper.Love to save these 2 thats left.

Do you have a pic? What size pot was it in originally?

Pot size sounds ok. Soil shouldn't be heavy. It should drain freely with excess water spilled out of the saucer after it's drained.
Wouldn't re-pot unless the soil was not draining well. It's possible to check the roots for rot without re-potting.
I would stop fertilizing if the plant is not doing well. Over fertilizing can cause leaves to brown and roots to burn.

If the other one doesn't grow leaves, it might not be alive. If you cut the top straight across down about 6", you might be able to see if the trunk is still alive, the roots could be rotted as well.
