This mature Shirotae is as full-sized as the five Kanzan with which it shares the back yard of a housing complex on the north side of SW Marine Drive, extending from Columbia to Yukon. Access is the alley to the west of Columbia off SW Marine Drive. The Shirotae is in full bloom while one Kanzan has a couple of blossoms opened.

There must have been a Park Board planting crew carefully doling out a special shipment of Takasago trees for Marpole between Ash and Laurel because here's the pattern:
4 trees on the north side of W. 66, between Ash and Heather; 2 trees on W. 67 west of Heather; 2 trees on W. 68th, between Ash and Heather; 4 trees on Laurel, between W. 66 and 67. For Takasagos, they look pretty good. All in bloom on April 8, 2013.

Wouldn't that 'Yae-beni-shidare' look so beautiful if its branches were allowed to trail down? I don't get that mini-skirt style, and it's so popular.

I believe it is Hosokawa-nioi in bloom on the alley (east) side of the Laurel Point Building, 1518 W. 70th (west of Granville). Very fragrant, large flowers as big as Tai Haku. Extra petaloids visible. Style and stigma shorter than longest stamen. Long, narrow sepals.

Looks like the one in Kitsilano. Wendy's post here: http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/forums/showpost.php?p=196018&postcount=50

Two Shirotae trees looking like Shirotae should look, reaching out for mountain air at the north end of Ash Park, Ash and W.66th, right by the fence with Wilfrid Laurier Elementary School. In beautiful bloom on April 8, 2013.

    Re: Scout Favourites

Here's the only chance to see five large, mature Tai Haku trees flowering together in one location. Along W. 66th Avenue, west of Adera (first street west of Granville). In bloom on April 8, 2013.

Not exactly timely - this posting is five years and four months late. I hope this tree is still there. I just noticed that it's not on our map, and it's a particularly nice 'Yae-beni-shidare', on the south side of 60th just east of Angus.

Never mind, it is too late. Kelli Kaplan, a walking group buddy with a new interest in trees, checked it out for me and sent this photo.

Neither snows nor rains can keep the four Whitcombs from meeting their appointed rounds at the Marpole Community Centre (south side of W. 59th, between Oak and Fremlin) March 5, 2014.

Those 'Whitcomb' at the Community Centre that Anne posted last week are convincingly in bloom today.

These have been reported in previous years, but I can use the photos for the Blooming Now page on the festival website.

'Accolade' on 61st between Manitoba and Ontario, past their peak.

'Akebono' on 60th between Manitoba and Ontario, almost at their peak.

'Akebono' on Rockpoole Drive off 59th, where 'Whitcomb' were posted last month.

Across the street from Rockpoole is this nicely situated 'Beni-shidare', also posted in a previous year.

The Shirotae trees at 1518 W. 70th (SW with Granville) are opening bloom April 3, 2014. First row of photos are of the Shirotae on building's east side, behind a cement fence.

The second row shows the two Shirotae trees on the building's west side, and (last photo) the four Akebono trees in bloom across the street, on NW side of W. 70 and Granville.

The four Takasago trees along north side of W. 66, west of Ash, are in bloom at March 21, 2015. One tree at 750 W. 66, is very near the Sendai-shidare (711 W. 66) which can be seen in the right background of the last photo.

4 or 5 huge Shirofugen trees are beautiful at the east-north side of Oak bridge and Marine Dr.
My pictures are from the bus, sorry fro poor quality. I remember as living in Marpole we came to look at these trees. Last picture is from the opposite side of Marine Dr.

2 ugly pruned Shirofugen cherry near Vancouver Public Library at Granville in Marpole look so touching and beautiful. Always wonder how trees looking so ugly whole year can find power to be so beautiful in bloom
