Happy New Year from The Maple Society! This month the Open Science Initiative (OSI) is publishing Peter Gregory's Acer erianthum profile, with photographs by Hugh Angus. The Woolly- or Downy-Flowered Maple is rare in gardens and deserves more attention for its pretty upright flower spikes and wide architectural leaves. Check it out at

This is the next in an exciting OSI series featuring Peter's maple profiles. Coming soon: Henry's Maple, Acer henryi.
