Maybe the one on the right is 'Gloria' ? Have never seen that one before. The leaves do look similar to the pic on the esveld site. Thank you

Here A.j. 'Vitifolium' has yellow, orange , and red colours in full sun. The plant in question has all dark purple leaves with greenish yellow midrib, grown in late afternoon shade. Wonder about the growth characteristics of 'Gloria' .

How is it that you have come to have a number of maples in the ground that you do not know what they are? Did you inherit the plants or did you purchase or acquire them yourself?

They are not my plants, although i wouldn't mind growing any propagated material from them. They were in three private gardens visited last year. There were named cultivars, of which the owners remembered some of the names without ID tags, in each garden. A confusing issue, especially when they mixed seedlings in with the cultivars and acquired plants from various sources . None of the owners use a computer and memory loss seems to be taking it's toll, so i've been trying to possibly get an idea of the plants names. There are quite a few maples growing here where i reside, but none like these, and i haven't noticed any similar anywhere. i've only seen them on the one day, so that's not much help either.
