Maple ID

    Saw these really tall pencil maples outside Cheesecake Factory. Anybody know the cultivar?

    Not sure because I can't see the leaf arrangement, but it might be a Liquidambar rather than a maple. Something like Liquidambar styraciflua 'Slender Silhouette'.

    +1 on the evidence. To tell if it's a Liquidambar rather than an Acer, look to see if the leaves are alternate (Liquidambar) or opposite (Acer). That's what Maf is referring to. Anyway I'd be disappointed if I didn't know there was a maple of this form. ;)

    Upon further research it matches up with the sweetgum. A very cool plant indeed.
