The following was received via email: I've been surfing on the NET, trying to find out how to propagate magnolias using their seeds. So far I have not been able to discover how to. Do you think that you and/or your fora could help me? I have six beautiful almost 20 ft Betty magnolias - the kind that produce large pretty magenta pink "cups" before any leaves grow. They produce hundreds of seeds annually but try as I may, nothing happens. If I took and planted as many cuttings - a propagating method which works - as I have seeds, I would be left without trees. Je te souhaite mes meilleurs voeux, Rui
Bonjour Rui, Magnolia seed should be planted fresh, but needs a period of cool stratification. Here is a link with simple instructions: http://home.att.net/~SpanishMoss/pods.html
Thank you very much for yopur information on magnolia seed germination. I am very excited and looking forward for the outcome. Best regards, Rui
