I recently purchased a flowering calla lily plant. it's been about 10 days and all the blooms have since begun to turn black and dry/flaky. What does this mean? I dont know how long the plant was flowering in the store before i bought it. Also, what will happen to the stems where i cut the flowers off? it seems to be turning brown and closing up, so i dont know if that stem is dying or just rejuvenating itself. also, how long does it take for the flower to become full size and full colour? i notice a few that seem to change colour from leaf-green to burgundy. finally, if i keep it indoors should i keep it in direct sunlight or indirect sunlight?

    Hi Marika,

It appears that the flowers that are turning black are cut stems in water. If so, they don't last forever and you are seeing the death of the flower. Nothing unusual here to me.

The cut stems are attached to a bulb and the cut stem is now withering. Again, nothing unusual to me.

Not sure what you mean about how long it takes the flower to become full size and full color. Do you mean the ones that are still attached to the bulb in the pot? If so, it's difficult to say as the growing conditions are different in everyone's home. Here's some growing info that should be helpful.

Marika, you are very welcome! I have found that if I use too many words when I search I don't easily find what I'm looking for. Also, clicking on the 'cached' version can be very helpful as it highlights the words you used.

    Hope that helps too. :)
