I am looking for a local supplier of hops rhizomes (or even a local gardener who could give me a cutting) - humulus lupulus etc. Let me know if any of you have any leads I live in Vancouver BC.
Hello, I was looking for Humulus lupulus seeds and the only source that was able to find them was through Chiltern Seeds and ebay of all places. I believe they also had them on the Sandeman Seeds website? I wanted them for ornamental purpose and actually wanted the golden variety (aurea), but was unable to find a source that had them. Going to see about starting them. Hope this helps
If you make it over to Vancouver, take a stroll down the back alleys off Commercial Drive. That's the motherlode. They are engulfing sheds all around there.
On South East Marine drive at what was once the old Kerr Rd. dump has a vast amount of hops that grow up into the surounding trees.
Check out Garden Works (http://www.gardenworks.ca) on Lougheed and Holdom-ish in Burnaby. Look out back in the vine section for Humulus Lupulus, they should be by the Clematis'. For $14.99 you should be able to pick up a nice little plant.
Here is a source for hop Rhizomes (thanks to Dan's homebrew shop for directing me to this source): http://www.crannogales.com They have many types of organic and non-organic hops.
If you look on e-flora BC at Humulus lupulus, you will find a photo of hops growing up a power pole in North Langley, with map coordinates. If you are out that way, I am sure you could grub-up a few stolons ;)
If you are currently looking for hops in vancouver we have a 5 acre hopyard that contains 11 varieties in Chilliwack. UBC Farm has organic hop rhizomes and hops they sell to a mailing list of people. This year they are having a pop up market. Email: farm.team@ubc.ca to get on the list
