I am an artist working on a project in Bangalore, India and am looking for a plant (or plants) with the following qualities:

the plant needs to be hardy, able to survive a bit of movement,
suited for the tropical/semi-tropical environment of south india
grow no higher that 14 inches (it could be trimmed)
it needs to contain as much greenery / co2 exchanging capacity as possible
be able to exist in soil no deeper than 12 inches, less, is preferrable

i would love to hear any suggestions any of you might have, or directions as to whom to speak to.

One suggestion is Marsilea macropoda (Clover Fern). This is a hardy and attractive fern that resembles a 4-leaf clover. It will tolerate extreme heat and draught but can be invasive if grown under ideal conditions. Given time the plant forms a dense groundcover.
