    Hello,
We live in South FL We are looking for a fast growing shrub or tree (even a combination) for our backyard. We have about 400 feet to cover. It can be quite hot and then rain for days.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks

    Hi Wells,

It's important to know your hardiness zone. I get your hardiness zone as 10. Here's a zip code zone finder in case you aren't sure.

Considering the problem southern Florida has with invasive species, I would suggest considering native shrubs and trees. Here's some links you should find helpful.

These first two don't have any pretty pictures, but do have lots of helpful info on things like mature size, tree litter, invasive potential, root structure, etc. Do keep them for reference when suggestions are made. The first one is for shrubs and some other landscape plants and the second one is for trees.

    Possibly Bambusa, if site suitable.

With no disrespect to Ron, I don't think I'd recommend bamboo without alot of research as it can quickly get out of hand and take over.
