Hi everyone. I picked up some more lithops here a little while ago and noticed that two of them are badly wrinkled along the sides of the plant body. I knew that the media was very dry so I gave them a small drink about 24 hours ago. The wrinkles are still there =/. Does it take them a while to take up the water and fill back out? Could it be something else? I know that there weren't getting much light in the greenhouse that I bought them from. I bought two others from them a while back and the plants seem very happy right now (although they both either just finished making a new body (that's how I bought them) or are in the process of doing so right now). Is there any way that I can get them back into the proper annual cycle for North America or will it happen naturally as the days get shorter? I'm giving them as much light as I can and lots of fresh air. Thanks Ryan
Hey Rhynno...there is a thread on this topic about 10 threads down called "wrinkled Lithops" I think Ed
Pretty close Ed except my problem seems to be underwatering rather than overwatering (as far as I can tell). There are no signs of rot (like that thread) and no signs that the plants are about to form a new set of leaves. Thanks for the reply/help!! Ryan
I'm thinking you're most likely right Ed. I had thought that they'd plump back up with a little water within a few hours but still no luck =/. Guess I'll give 'em more time. Thanks again Ed!
Still no luck =/ and I gave them a good drink. Is it normal for lithops to have a wrinkled body even after they're watered?
Here are some pictures of the wrinkly little plants =/. I moved some of the gravel away from the plant bodies to show the wrinkles more clearly.
Looks like I found my answer lol This is taken from a tag board found on http://www.lithop.supanet.com/Page_3.html Gabriel: I have a wrinkly appearance which did not respond after the first and second watering (1 month interval between them). The lithops is soft but there is no sign of rotting. I remember that while repotting it in late-summer, the original potting soil came-off completely, leaving a bare root. Could this contribute to the problem? Pete: Guess this doesn't sound too healthy....if the plant is still wrinkly after a couple of waterings the roots aren't functioning and are probably damaged. If you are in the northern hemisphere now is the time to ease off watering so I would suggest removing the plant from its pot and leave it unpotted until next spring....if it is healthy it will still be OK if not it will succumb. If it is still in the land of the living at springtime repot it and see if it recovers after watering....by then it might be able to generate a healthy root..
