I live on the western lakeshore of lower Michigan. I usually have lots of lilac blossoms and beautiful iris blooms. This year none of my lilac bushes bloomed nor did any of my many iris plants. Could this have been caused by the cool wet spring we had?

Portland, Oregon's public lilac garden (at the bottom of Pill Hill) is a decidedly soggy-looking sight--yet lilacs seem to really like dryish weather inland (even Wyoming if my memory's correct).

Irises, however, thrive in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, where spring weather is routinely cool and moist.

    Short answer: I dunno.

If it were just my iris and lilacs I would say a fluke thing. But it is everybody's Iris and lilacs in this area.

    Must be the weather.
