The best person to contact for this would be Dr. Irwin Brodo at the Canadian Museum of Nature: contact information. He often gives workshops, and I was privileged to participate in one about 5 years ago in Victoria.
Dr. Brodo does not give courses in Ontario. In Maine, each summer, but not here. Besides his specialty is cructose lichens which are not perhaps the best place to start.
EMAN does many ecological monitoring projects in Ontario, including air pollution monitoring with lichens. Part of this includes training participants in lichen identification, at least in the basics and the more typical species. http://www.eman-rese.ca eman@ec.gc.ca EMAN Coordinating Office, 867 Lakeshore Rd, Burlington, ON, L7R 4A6.
