Beautiful! Most of my Maples in my yard had issues this year and the leaves are already gone. :o( One of the local Weathermen said it was caused by a fungus that usually grows in the Spring but then it dries out enough that it dies off in the summer. Well this year, it was so wet that the fungus never died. So at least 3 of the Maples in my yard, and a couple of other trees only had very sparse, discolored, tiny leaves this year, and most of those trees lost most of their leaves by the middle of September. :o( My sugar maples still look great though, and haven't changed color yet.
Hello, Here are some night photos of my Acer palmatum 'Sango-kaku' and 'Baldsmith'. I hope the picture quality comes through on this forum.
Fall colors are in full swing here in Oregon. So far, colors have been great! There are still plenty of trees that are still green, so I'll post more photos in a few weeks.
A couple of weeks ago, we drove to southern Oregon for a climbing measure of the world's tallest pine. While waiting for the news team, I found some Bigleaf maples with a couple of types of color. : - )
Here's one I took with my cell phone. I don't have a good colour memory, but the phone colours are usually too intense. I don't know where one could buy this kind of maple.
Sasquatch- what part of Oregon are you in? I am so envious of your colors! None of mine are doing much yet, if at all. The one exception is A. Japonicum "Otaki," and I suspect that's because I've only had it in my possession since September. Most of my reds totally greened out over the summer (unusually) and my Kamagata dropped half its leaves and sprouted totally new ones before beginning to turn. Now I half a half-naked red tree with a couple green fingers... :P The only one that really did well IMO this year was my Ukigumo... The pink just deepened over the summer until it was nearly magenta, and I'm just starting to see bits of yellow now. :)
Well I don't have to visit an arboretum now...great show thanks for sharing. When I saw your Mikawa Yatsubusa my jaw dropped.....then another appeared....and another....what can I say!
I'm near Eugene. Alot of my trees are deep in fall color, but some are lagging behind. it has been an odd year in the Willamette Valley.
Here are some shots of leaves on different trees. The photo is labeled for the tree. The colors are great but last only a few days
Sasquatch, You have a great collection with a alot of variation, I'm envious. What elevation are you at, color here seems to be lagging behind yours even though we're about a hundred miles north of you, at about 480 feet of elevation? EPP1950
A strange fall here to finish a strange year. Lots of stuff already finished, some still going, some not yet started. Some brilliant, some very average. The photos didn't come out terribly well -- some of the oranges are very good -- but after a half day of potting on seedlings I couldn't see trying again. Anyway these are mostly non-palmatum species, identified by photo name. For you palmatum crazy folks, I've included a pretty seedling... :)
