Hello everybody This is my first post here and I am glad to have found this resource. I live in a duplex in Kelowna BC (in the Okanagan) and we have a lawn in the sunny front and back yards, along with a large cherry and walnut tree and a few flowers and herbs. The lawn we have is "regular" (I have no clue about PH levels or soil type, except that it is hard and dusty) and needs too much watering (environmentally and time wise) and is also patchy and boring. Are neighbor aka landlord likes the green "simplicity". I would like to suggest some kind of alternative for the law, such as clover. I have seen websites on water conservation making reference to clover and xeriscaping. Xeriscaping would be great but I will not be able to convince the neighbors ;-) Any tips would be greatly appreciated! I would like to be able to show a sustainable and easy grass-like alternative and am looking forward to your input!! Have a great day Martin
try searching for the brand of "steppables" or " jeepers creepers" there are some neat ground covers in those brand names. for an idea I would suggest creeping Thyme. check hardiness though, depending on your zone.
We just bought the place so will now not have to do as much convincing. I will check out the tips which have been posted here. Also though, I see that the City of Kelowna has a "Water Smart" program and endorses this grass.
Interested to know if anyone had tried this grass? It sounds almost too good to be true. Congrats on your house purchase jsbpepe. Margaret
