Hello everyone.....I was wondering what can be done for a laural leaf willow lthat has lost a limb in a wind storm that has left a gapeing hole in the main trunk where the blown down limb had come from. Is there anyway that this hole can be safely filled. Can this tree survive with such a large hole in it. Also would this tree now be unsafe. Any assistance that could be provide would be greatly appreciated.

'filling' the hole is likely not a great idea. can you post a pic? if not, a clean pruning wound is better than a ragged one, if the tree warrants it, try contacting a local qualified arborist for a consultation and evaluation.

Thanks jimmyQ here is the problem. this hole in the main trunk is about 18" in diameter. I was hopeing not to have to destroy the tree. So maybe i can fill this void with something that will not allow water to accumilate.
