I have an 8 year old lapin cherry tree, looked like a bumper crop this year, but the cherries are turning a reddish brown color and falling off. It did the same thing last year. Wondering if it's something wrong with the tree and if there is something that can be done.
It's probably the normal June drop that occurs with most fruits. My cherries are going through that phase right now. The amount of fruit dropped depends on weather, pollination, and availability of nutrients for the tree. It can vary quite dramatically from year to year and among different types of fruit. I read that cherries are not as susceptible to it as some other fruits, but mine always suffer a significant amount of fruit drop. I blame it on the typically cool and wet weather when the trees are blooming.
