New to this forum and website and hoping to receive some insight regarding formal landscaping using columnar (upright/sentry) trees in the front yard to frame the house. Am considering using sweet gum trees which grow well in my area. Appreciate any helpful responses! Have a wonderful day!!
I'll add some more questions, though I won't be the person to answer this. How wide is the house and how many stories tall is it? What architectural style is it? How wide is the property and are there trees or other plantings already in the front yard? How far back is the house from the property line? How wide is the path from the street? Is there a porch at the front, either in front of the door or to the side of the path? Is there some architectural feature at the doorway? Will the trees go from the property line to the front door? Is the area where the trees will go flat, and is the whole front of the yard flat? And then there are questions about the climate - do you get freezing temperatures, and what about soil conditions? Is the area around you flat, or are you near the top of a hill, or in a presumably wetter depression?
