King George

    I am new to this forum. Have a King George rhodo now several years old and about 5 ft high and wide, with blooms this year. I think it should be transplanted to a better place in my fairly large garden. Is this advisable?

    Rhododendrons are quite amenable to transplanting - depending on size. Their roots are compact and relatively shallow. Even though it is good to dig up as much root as possible, they tolerate the loss of perimeter roots quite well as long as they are planted carefully and keep moist while they recover from the move.     Keep in mind that some rhodos tolerate more sun than others. Loderi King George should do well in partial shade, in moist, acidic, well-drained soil with an organic mulch like composted leaves or wood chips.
    You already must know how fragrant it is so be sure to plant it somewhere that you can enjoy it.
