These are plants I have not seen or noticed before, seen this week on Kaua'i. First, the largest flowers, are Beaumontia murtonii. These have a cup-shaped flowers around 8cm in diameter. I have read that the similar Beaumontia grandiflora have more trumpet-shaped flowers and only bloom in March-April, whereas B. murtonii flowers also appear at other times. Here is Hedychium gardnerianum, Kahili ginger, a beautiful invasive weed that I saw lots of places on the way up to Waimea Canyon. It was hard for me to identify this, as it looks so different in fruit from its appearance with its delicate white flowers. I'm only getting six photos in this posting, so will continue in a reply.
I think this is Vigna Caracalla, growing among several weedy vines along the road where I was staying in Lihue. Here are some tiny flowers of Breynia disticha. This is widely planted on the islands, for the colourful leaves, particularly of the 'Roseo-picta' cultivar. I'd never seen the flowers before.
Here is Heliocarpus popayanensis, another attractive invasive plant. This was growing over much of the hillside behind the road. Well, this isn't new to me - I have seen it before on Oahu.
