Juniperus communis 'Compressa'

Do you find this plant and Juniperus communis 'Pencil Point' to be vastly different?

 

I don't know the growth rates off hand and sometimes cold-hardiness due to origin can be a factor. Otherwise, because I'm no expert, both look exactly the same to me.

Growth seems to be about 4-6" {10-15 cm.} a year here, with a single leader. No fertilizer, high rainfall area. H 6 1/2' x W 1' {H 2m. x W 30 cm.} 14 years.

 

Taking a quick look I see a couple .edu sites listing 'Pencil Point' as a synonym of 'Sentinel'.

Despite the name confusion, this little exclamation point conifer is great.
