Hi. New to this forum - seems like a very good resource and I am appreciative of all the help given here! Thanks to those answering questions!

I just bought my first house which is in Marin County in Northern California and it gets hot here in the summer. I will be building a new house on the property in a very thin budget. I was hoping escrow would close before spring, but here we are 4 months later and now I am faced with having to move an awesome old apple tree which apparently is tapped into some subterranean water system because the prior owner never waters it.

I would wait to move it until winter but that can't happen due to construction schedule. Is it worth even trying to move it in the summer?

I have read conflicting reports bare root vs. root ball digging.

Should I remove all the fruit and/or do any pruning before moving it?

Also - it seems to have what appears to be lichen growing all over it. Should I just leave that? It's been that way for decades, apparently.
