I live in Coquitlam, and have just acquired a jasmine vine (one of those pots that one sees in supermarkets, &c.). It has six-petaled flowers and white buds--am I correct to think that this plant is jasminum officinale and not jasminum polyanthum? And would it be safe to plant this little guy in my garden? I have tried searching on the internet to find out how hardy it is, and most sites say that it will survive in zones 8/7, but I am never sure what that means where I live. Any information or advice would really be appreciated. Thank you!
Locally hardy J. officinale blooms in summer here, whereas J. polyanthum is sent up from California and seen (and smelled) blooming early in the year at local outlets. If there are profuse bunches of very fragrant flowers, it is J. polyanthum - and is tender.
Moylons1 sorry to say it will not survive in our zone.... keep it potted, and bring indoors for the winter months....
Thank you both very much! I will do as you recommend and keep it potted. Do either of you know where one might find j. officinales here? Is it something that is easily obtained? Thanks again! --Michael
