I purchased some Japenese Holly (sky pencil) from Wal-Mart about 3 months ago. I have very little new growth on these plants. I am wondering about the growing speed of the Japenese Holly. I was under the impression (from a worker I pressumed knew of these things) that this Sky Pencil would be a quick grower. The worker was wrong of course, 3 months later and I have only a half inch of growth. The Japenese Holly gets as much sun as the day offers (8+ hours). This plant only gets water when it rains. If it goes more than a week without rain I water heavily in the morning. Any news or info about the Japenese Holly would be welcomed. In the picture you will also see the Dusty Miller that I planted around the Sky Pencil. The mulch was also red when I placed it in the bed....the rain has washed away the color. No biggy, I am going to place white marble chips in the bed when the dusty miller dies away.
Has a nice green color so not obviously unhealthy but yes: should be growing faster at this time of year.
