I have a Japanese maple I planted near a fence and other trees a year and a half ago. It has grown like a weed, adding about 5 feet. In the last month however some branches have died. When I first noticed a couple of weeks ago I lopped off the very dead branches, leaving one branch with some dead and some green leaves. (I have another Japanese maple, about 25' high, which does well, but has some leaf curl, so I know it's not leaf curl - the branches are dead). Anyway, yesterday I noticed that more branches had died, so I lopped them all off, and laid them on the grass for half an hour or so before putting them in my recycling bin. This morning I noticed my grass is brown in exactly th eplace where I laid the branches.

So I'm wondering if there could be a quick-acting herbicide that could cause this? (I don't use herbicides, but the tree is next to a fence wioth a neighbor) Or could the tree have a virus or some other bug, that may be as infective to yard grass?

    Thank you for any advice!
