I planted a Japanese Maple last year that seemed to come back fine this spring. The leaves started to appear from the bottom up but only about halfway up the tree. The top half is still bare, though the branches don't appear to be dead. It's been weeks since the first leaves appeared and my other two Japanese Maplesa both have all their leaves. Is this normal? Will patience pay off or is there a problem? Thanks.
instead of cutting a branch off, use you fingernail to scratch the bark on a branch. if you see green underneath, its fine. if you see brown its likely dead. a green cambium layer tells you there is sap flow. when this dries up, the cambiun dies and turns brown. what kind of cultivaur is it ?
