    Well, this is sad. The rats themselves are "designated as a national natural treasure".
    The article ends with a bit on beetles that have been killing cherry trees since 2012, with a link to Japanese cherry blossom season is here but extinction threat deepens

    I don't know this site, but there was an article about the rats in the Vancouver Sun this weekend.
