Jade torture

Discussion in 'Cacti and Succulents' started by Unregistered, Dec 23, 2004.

  1. A beautiful, very large, jade plant was entrusted to my care while my friend is away. The heater in my sunroom malfunctioned and as a result the plant was subjected to below freezing temperatures for probably a couple days - devestation! The large trunk and part way up some of the "branches" still feel firm; the remainder is turning to mush. The plant had been in dry soil during the torture. Is there a way to save any part of the plant, e.g. cuttings. Should I hack off all the damaged branches and how far down? It makes me feel physically sick. (Also, similar fate for my 6 year old son's pride and joy Christmas cactus.) Thank-you.
